Specific Heats of Solids and Liquids

cP and cv are used particularly in case of gases. In case of solids and liquids, the specific volume is very small and its changes can be neglected.

Thus                                                         h = u + Pv

or                                                           dh = du +d (Pv)

= du + 0 : dh = du.

Hence                                                     cv = cP = c (say).

Thus there is only one specific heat c for solids and liquids. So in any process.

dq = dh =du = cdT.
