Steady and Unsteady Flows

The fluid flow will be termed as steady if the fluid properties and various other hydrodynamic parameters at any point do not change with time.

Thus

The preceding equation states that in steady flow the velocity and acceleration are functions of space coordinates only. Fluid characteristics like velocity (V), pressure, (p) density (p) etc., at a point do not change with time. Mathematically,

The fluid flow will be termed as unsteady if the fluid properties and various other hydrodynamic parameters at any point change with time.
