Thermodynamic Equilibrium

A system is said to be in thermodynamic equilibrium when there is no change of properties of the system if isolated from surroundings. There are three types of

thermodynamic equilibrium.

• Thermal Equilibrium      • Mechanical Equilibrium      • Chemical Equilibrium.

1.7.1 Thermal Equilibrium

A system is said to be in thermal equilibrium when the temperature at all points in the system is same.

1.7.2 Mechanical Equilibrium

A system is said to be in mechanical equilibrium if pressure at all points in the system is same.

1.7.2 Mechanical Equilibrium

A system is said to be in chemical equilibrium if there is no chemical reaction, diffusion or any transfer of matter. ·
